Sun, heat, chlorine, salt water and humidity

opens up the cuticles of your hair, which makes it easier for the oxygen to penetrate it: it is the oxygen in the air which lightens your hair colour. At the same time as your follicles splay open, the sun, heat and air pollution will dry out your hair. Therefore it is recommended to always use sun protection on your hair in the summer. There are many different types of products which offer sun protection, like the Kérastase Soleil series that we offer at Escape.

TIPS

from Anne-Mette, Head of Technical Team at Escape Hairdressing

"For everyday it's best to use a spray with sun protection. This means you can easily reapply it and can use it without ruining your hairstyle. Remember your hair is just as vulnerable to the sun on the way to work as it is on the beach. On the beach, use a leave-in cream with SPF like Kérastase Soleil CC Crème and always rinse your hair with fresh water after swimming in salt or chlorinated water. In addition your hair is its weakest when wet, so always take extra care when combing and brushing out knots and tangles. An interesting point to know just like when you wear sun cream, you still will turn brown without burning. The same applies to your hair, it will remain protected however will still lighten. Therefore to prevent any lifting in your colour, best to avoid direct sun exposure or use a hat to cover your tresses."
